Democratic lawmakers of the House Oversight Committee will brief reporters following the committee’s closed-door meeting with victims tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) launched an investigation into the late disgraced financier‘s case in July following turmoil after the Trump administration concluded that Epstein did not keep a so-called “client list.” The joint Justice Department-FBI memo also reaffirmed that he died in 2019 by suicide while awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges.
Democrats called for a hearing with Epstein’s accusers, who they argue have firsthand accounts that “may not be sufficiently represented in the Department of Justice’s records.” The Oversight Committee also subpoenaed the DOJ for documents related to the case, which the department began turning over last month.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. EDT.
