After a slow start to the quarter, the S&P 500 was back in the hunt for a record close by midday on Tuesday.
The market benchmark was up 0.1% around 2 p.m. ET. Any close higher would mark its third closing high in as many trading days. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, up 451 points, or 1%, is still another 1.1% away from its Dec. 4 record.
The Nasdaq Composite, down 0.6% as Wall Street shed some recent winners in the tech and AI space, also closed at a record on Friday and Monday.
